Super Summer Show Tomorrow!

Come down to Solly’s tomorrow because we have another fantastic BlueBeat show lined up for you! (Yes, just for you!)  Tomorrow’s show features reggae locals the RebelLions in their BlueBeat debut.  We also have, hailing from Rochester, NY, the ska/punk outfit The Steakouts!  Rounding out the show our local third-wave faves, Free Lobster Buffet.

We’re also doing a mini-fundraiser at the show!  I recently found a bunch of bins full of CDs from way back when Rude in DC / DCSka.com ran a distro.  I’ll bring the CDs and they’re free for the taking, but a donation would be greatly appreciated.  I’ll be donating any of the money received to the National Marrow Donor Program in honor of Dan Hess.

So tomorrow, come by dance to some awesome sounds from all around, get some old school CDs, and have a good time!  See ya tomorrow, 8:30pm, $7, 21+.

Hope you can make it and stay cool!

Michelle (and Duncan and Kevin)

Show Tonight with an All New Line Up!

Hey Everyone,

We’ve had a little bit of change in our line up this evening!  The Beatdown cancelled their tour due to circumstances beyond their control and Nayas has some folks on injured reserve.  No worries, we have an awesome line up for you tonight still – The Chariots and The Evokatones!  If you missed the Evokatones last month, now is your chance to see them.  They’re one of the area’s up-and-coming ska/reggae bands from Baltimore.  The Chariots have evolved over the years and they now include a horn section, which has really rounded out their sound.

Come out and enjoy this awesome weather we’re having and dance to some really great local ska and reggae!

Hope to see you there,

Michelle & the BBDC crew

Upcoming Shows

We have a stellar line up for October and even more fun for November!  In October, we have Making Movies from Kansas City, Nayas, and Unity Reggae Band.  So it’ll be a good night of Latin rock, reggae, and good times on October 20th.  Our November BlueBeat show is a week earlier than normal – so it’s on November 10th, which also happens to be Duncan’s birthday.  For that we’ve got a very special guest from LA.  Queen P from Ocean 11 will be doing a set of really awesome tunes backed by the Shifters.  The Shifters will also be doing their own set and the show will close out with Hub City Stompers.  Anyway, enjoy your fall, we’ve got some good stuff lined up for the next few months.  As always, thanks for coming out to support us, the music, and the bands.

xo,
Michelle

Last Week’s BlueBeat Show was Awesome!

Thanks to everyone who came out to last week’s BlueBeat DC show.  It was great seeing some old faces as well as some new ones.  We had a really solid line up of some awesome bands – Royal City Riot from Long Island and the Beatdown from Montreal were on tour together and came through BlueBeat DC.  We had our local favorites Eastern Standard Time round out the line up.

Here are some videos that I took with my iPhone at the show:

Royal City Riot

The Beatdown

Eastern Standard Time

Anyway, be sure to catch our next show, May 19th featuring the Shifters, Nayas, and more!  If there’s a band you’d like to see at a future show, let us know – bluebeatdc – at – gmail.

Quick Update

Hi everyone,

Thanks for everyone that came to our February and March shows.  Unfortunately the Chariots had an emergency and couldn’t play the show, but it turned out pretty awesome because Angelo Moore stopped by and jammed with Pablo’s Reggae Sweatshop All-Star Band.  Check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goW5OKxPQQQ

The St. Patty’s day show ruled as well.  The Shifters have an amazing new singer, so I highly recommend you checking them out when you get a chance.  The Thrilltones and On Display both had really great sets, too.

In April, we have an great show lined up.  Royal City Riot from NY and the Beatdown from Canada will be playing, along with our favorites Eastern Standard Time.  The show is April 21st so mark your calendars!

We have more great shows lined up in the spring and we’ll announce details soon.  If there’s ever a band you’d like to see play BlueBeat DC, let us know.  You can email us at bluebeatdc@gmail.com

xoxo,

Michelle and the rest of the BlueBeat Crew

We’ve Redone the Site!

Hi everyone!

Hope all is well.  We’ve redesigned our site and hope you like it!  All the content is pretty much the same, but we’ve now converted it to a WordPress site, which will just be easier for us to update.

What’s even cooler is that, thanks to WordPress and the WordPress Mobile Pack, there’s a mobile version of our site, too.  Whip out your phone and check it out – it’s the same URL.  Pretty fancy, right?

Even better, we’ve got a few great shows lined up in the coming months.  In a few weeks, we have Pimpbot all the way from Hawaii joining us with local folks Interstate Rivals and the Chariots.  In March, BlueBeat DC falls on St. Patrick’s Day.  Come celebrate with the Shifters and a few of our other friends.  April will be stellar with two awesome bands – Royal City Riot (NY) and the Beatdown (Canada).  We’re still waiting to confirm the full lineups for these shows, so more will be announced.  All the shows are the 3rd Thursday of the month at Solly’s U Street Tavern at 8pm.

Hope everyone is staying warm during these dreary, cold days.

xo,

Michelle, Duncan, and the rest of the BlueBeat DC crew
